Welcome! My name is Quinn Thomas and I recently got accepted into the Bachelor of Fine Arts program at the University of Montana. I will be focusing on painting and printmaking, and am very excited to see where it takes me. I'm just over halfway through art school. I've been selling my work at art markets, and I hope to open an online store soon. Other than being in the studio, I enjoy spending time with my pets, taking care of my houseplants, and baking. Thanks for being here!
artist statement
I use my work to explore human connection to nature and my connection to myself. I regularly depict animals, mountainscapes, and human figures. I also depict my own body often- transgender bodies aren’t depicted in art as much as I think they should be. We are all a part of nature, just residing in different forms. Humans want to separate ourselves, perfect ourselves, but we are also animals. Our bodies are ever-changing, just like the landscape. Through painting and printmaking, I aim to celebrate the landscape, the human body, the animals, and how we interact as pieces of a larger puzzle.
In both disciplines, I enjoy experimentation and the use of bright colors. I rarely make a print on plain white paper- it just doesn’t interest me. I enjoy dying paper so much that I decided to transfer that over to my paintings, leading to my current style of backgrounds. Over these backgrounds, I will use extremely thick oil paint to create a textured mountain range. A large part of my art practice is making sure I have fun- I’m not necessarily concerned with realism.
